Dr Rummana Afreen is a Consultant Physician in Rehabilitation Medicine with over 15 years experience. Her areas of expertise include orthopaedic rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, multi-trauma and developmental disability. She has particular interest in the spasticity management of this niche cohort.
Dr Afreen has been instrumental in establishing new clinics in response to emerging needs, including the recent creation of a ground-breaking multidisciplinary spasticity clinic for transition groups requiring botulinum toxin under sedation, referred to as the “One-Stop-Shop.” Dr Afreen’s exceptional contributions were recognised when she became a finalist for the Premier’s award in the “Public Servant of the Year 2023” category. Furthermore, her “One-Stop-Shop” project was nominated for the prestigious “Highest Quality Healthcare Award” in 2023.
Dr Afreen has completed her fellowship from The Royal Australasian College of Physicians, has been a VMO at Lakeview Private Hospital since 2015, seeing inpatients and those attending the hospital day rehabilitation program. She is passionate about helping patients recover from their disabilities and improve their quality of life.
Dr Afreen is involved in multiple research projects and educational activities including undergraduate and post graduate training. She works at Westmead Public Hospital as a staff specialist in Rehabilitation/Disability, co-ordinating a diverse range of multidisciplinary clinicians to enable achievement of rehabilitation goals and improve quality of life for this cohort.
