Professor Grahame Elder is a renal physician, whose principal interest is in bone and mineral metabolism, particularly resulting from Chronic Kidney Disease and following transplantation.
He is a staff specialist in the Department of Renal Medicine Westmead Hospital, member of the Skeletal Biology Division at the Garvan Institute for Medical Research, Sydney and is Clinical Professor University of Notre Dame Australia and Associate Professor University of Sydney. He has assisted in the development of national evidence-based chronic kidney disease mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) guidelines; the ‘Caring for Australasians with Renal Impairment’ (CARI) guidelines, and the international ‘Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes’ (KDIGO) CKD-MBD guidelines, including as a workgroup member during 2023. He is a coordinator of Clinical Renal Research at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, and is author or co-author of over 100 peer reviewed papers and book chapters, including ‘Osteoporosis associated with Chronic Kidney Disease’ in the current 4th edition of ‘Osteoporosis’ and ‘Post Transplant Metabolic Bone Disease’ in the latest edition of the ‘Oxford Textbook of Clinical Nephrology’.
