Preparing For Your Stay

What time to arrive on the day of your admission

We will advise you of your admission time and fasting by SMS (text message) or phone, between 4.00pm and 4.30pm, on the business day prior to your admission. If your admission falls on a Monday, you will receive the notification on the preceding Friday. The text messages you receive will include fasting and water instructions, as well as any excess or payments due. If you don’t receive a text message by 6pm, please contact us on (02) 8624 5000. If we do not have your mobile phone number, we will call you on your landline.

Please be aware your admission time is when you should arrive at hospital, the time for your procedure will be later than this, by at least an hour. Your surgeon is in charge of the order of surgeries performed.

What to bring with you to hospital

For your medical care:

  • X-rays and pathology test results requested by your doctor
  • The medications you are currently taking, in their original packaging and clearly labelled

Special needs, if applicable:

  • Your EpiPen, if you have one
  • Pacemaker card, if you have one
  • CPAP machine, if you use one
  • Advanced Care Directive, if applicable
  • Any mobility aids that assist you
  • Directive and DNR, if applicable
  • Guardianship details, if any

To complete your hospital admission and payment:

  • Your photo identification
  • Medicare card
  • Health fund card
  • Means of payment for health fund excess or self funded costs
  • Your original consent form

For your personal use:

  • Pyjamas, dressing gown, comfortable clothes, slippers or shoes
  • Personal toiletries
  • Depending on your length of stay, you may want to bring a laptop, ipad or tablet to watch your favourite shows (using your own streaming services)
  • Be sure to bring the chargers you need, for any electronic devices
  • Rehabilitation patients: Your rehabilitation may include hydrotherapy, so bring your swimmers / bathers for the pool.
If possible, arrange for a relative or friend to bring your overnight bag to you after your surgery.
