Dr Anthony Whitfield is a Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist with expertise in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and small bowel disorders. He has a particular interest in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including the endoscopic management of complex colorectal polyps.
Dr Whitfield is the Director of Endoscopy at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals. He also practises at Blacktown Hospital, Citywests Day Surgery, Lakeview Private, Norwest Private and Westmead Private, where he performs complex endoscopic procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and advanced tissue resection.
His areas of expertise include gastroscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy (PillCam™), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), ERCP, EUS, flexible sigmoidoscopy, polypectomy, enteroscopy and single balloon enteroscopy. He also provides assessment and management for liver disease, abnormal liver function tests, gastrointestinal bleeding, iron deficiency, reflux, inflammatory bowel disease and small bowel disorders, as well as bowel cancer screening and prevention.
Dr Whitfield is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and is currently completing a PhD in endoscopy through the University of Sydney. He remains actively involved in research and education, with a focus on advancing standards in therapeutic endoscopy and providing contemporary, evidence-based care.
