We have launched the Healing Canvas Gallery, a dedicated space designed to promote relaxation, reflection and emotional wellbeing for patients, visitors, families, and staff. The initiative transforms an area on our rehabilitation ward into a calming visual environment where art becomes part of the healing process, encouraging mindfulness and reducing stress during treatment.
A key feature of the gallery is local artist Gill Pedrana’s abstract collection, K I N D SERIES. Pedrana lives on a farm on the outskirts of Dubbo along the Macquarie River in New South Wales, Australia, and describes her work as a reflection of the current mood of the world around us. Her process often begins with broad black acrylic brushstrokes symbolising what she sees as “the reckless and mindless woes in our world right now.” She then layers colour, light, and expressive mark-making using paint, graphite, and marker pens, transforming darker foundations into more uplifting, joyful compositions while still allowing traces of imperfection to remain. It creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere that encourages moments of pause and reflection.
The gallery reflects our broader commitment to holistic care, where emotional and psychological wellbeing are considered alongside physical recovery. Soft lighting, seating areas and open viewing spaces have been introduced to create a peaceful atmosphere that encourages reflection and calm. The artwork is available for public viewing, with selected pieces also available for purchase directly from the artist.
The initiative also highlights our commitment to supporting local artists by providing a meaningful platform within a healthcare setting. By integrating local artwork into everyday clinical surroundings, the gallery strengthens the connection between creativity, community and wellbeing, helping create a more human and emotionally supportive rehabilitation environment for patients, families and staff.
