Dr Simon Chan obtained his medical degree from the University of Sydney. In 1998, he was awarded the Zimmer Research Fellowship at the Jo Miller Laboratory in Montreal.
He returned to Sydney for his clinical orthopaedic training, before completing hand surgery fellowships in world-renowned units at the University of Hong Kong and the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, UK. Dr Chan treats patients with all hand surgical conditions. His main areas of interest include carpal injuries, complex wrist fractures, finger joint replacements and minimally invasive surgery (e.g. endoscopic carpal tunnel decompression and wrist arthroscopy). He has a public appointment at Westmead Hospital, where he is the only sub-specialist hand and wrist surgeon.
Dr Chan is actively involved in training students, junior doctors and surgeons. He is also a moderator for the internet discussion group Hand Surgery International.
