All About Gastroenterology, Bariatrics and Colorectal was presented by leading Lakeview Private Hospital surgeons and physicians. GPs heard from experts about the latest developments in their fields and gained experience in the practical sessions. There was plenty of opportunities throughout the day to ask questions and engage in discussions with the specialists. Presenting Specialists

Dr Sanjay Adusumilli

Dr Sanjay Adusumilli is a general and colorectal surgeon. He has an interest in colorectal malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders. Sanjay completed a Masters of Surgery (University of Sydney), with his research focused on colonic bleeding. He has presented and published on an array of topics including faecal incontinence, obstructed defecation, colonic bleeding and single incision surgery. Sanjay offers the following services: endoscopy and colonoscopy (GESA accredited); general surgery including laparoscopic hernia repairs and cholecystectomy; and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Dr Farzan Bahin

Dr Farzan Bahin provides comprehensive clinical care and is committed to quality gastrointestinal endoscopy. He has undergone extensive training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and has a strong academic background. Dr Bahin’s clinical practice spans the breadth of gastroenterology, hepatology and gastrointestinal endoscopy. Interests include colorectal cancer screening, endoscopic resection, ERCP and stenting, inflammatory bowel disease and Barrett’s oesophagus.

Dr Roy Brancatisano

Dr Roy Brancatisano is an upper gastrointestinal bariatric surgeon. He has performed over 4,000 weight loss surgery operations including laparoscopic gastric banding, gastric sleeve resections and gastric bypass. He has particular expertise in advanced laparoscopic techniques and has improved the operation of gastric sleeve resection resulting in reduced leaks and bleeding risks. Dr Brancatisano is the Founder of the Circle of Care program which helps patients achieve their goals by supporting them with a team of professionals including physicians, dietitians and psychologists.

Dr Michael Devadas

Dr Devadas is a specialty-trained upper gastrointestinal surgeon who is passionate about providing the highest level of care for his patients. He specialises in stomach and oesophageal cancer surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hernia surgery and bariatric (weight loss) surgical procedures using endoscopic, laparoscopic (keyhole) and minimally invasive techniques. Dr Devadas practices at Circle of Care, Bella Vista, which is committed to  helping patients achieve their goals by supporting them with a team of professionals including physicians, dietitians and psychologists.

Dr Raghu Gill

Dr Gill is an Interventional Endoscopist with extensive clinical experience in endoscopic diagnosis and management of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He has trained and worked in premier hospitals including Royal North Shore and Royal Prince Alfred in Australia and Duke University Hospital in USA. His clinical practice is enhanced by his interest in evidence based treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, bile duct, pancreas and liver. Special interests include: endoscopic screening of Barrett’s esophagus, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic and bowel cancer screening; endoscopic diagnosis, staging and treatment for gastrointestinal cancer. All privately performed procedures, including anaesthetic and pathology fees, are strictly ‘no gap’.

Dr Carolyn Jameson

Dr Carolyn Jameson is a metabolic, obesity, bariatric and advanced laparoscopic general surgeon. She has a breadth of experience across a number of subspecialty areas including advanced laparoscopic metabolic, obesity, bariatric and general surgical procedures. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams and allied health professionals to ensure the best outcomes for her patients and takes an empathic, holistic and caring approach.

Dr Peter Loder

Dr Loder completed general surgical training at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital before sub-specialising in colorectal surgery at St Mark’s Hospital London. He practices predominately within this specialty including colonoscopy, colorectal cancer, inflammatory complaints (haemorrhoids, fissure and fistula); and functional disorders of bowel function. After more than 20 years as a consultant surgeon at Westmead Hospital, Dr Loder is now more active at Lakeview Private Hospital.

Dr Nim Pathma-Nathan

Dr Nim Pathma-Nathan is a senior colorectal surgeon in practice in the area for 15 years. He is the Clinical Head of the Western Sydney Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Group. He has been on the Board of Lakeview Private Hospital since its inception. He performs all aspects of general and colorectal surgery at Lakeview Private Hospital and Westmead.

A/Prof David van der Poorten

A/Prof David van der Poorten is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Lakeview Private Hospital and a Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital. His is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and is active in both teaching and research. His practice encompasses all aspects of gastroenterology and liver disease with a particular interest in colorectal cancer screening, capsule endoscopy (pill cam), the management of fatty liver disease and NASH, inflammatory bowel disease, drug-resistant Helicobacter infection and the management of Hepatitis B and C.

Dr Brendan Ryan

Dr Brendan Ryan is a bariatric and transplant surgeon with ten years’ experience in private practice. He has particular expertise in weight-loss surgery, anti-reflux surgery and gallstones. Dr Ryan has rooms at Lakeview Private Hospital and is also director of Sydney Bariatric Clinic; a multidisciplinary clinic aimed at maximising weight loss after surgery.

Dr Way Siow

Dr Way Siow is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and a VMO at Auburn Hospital. He has a particular interest in bowel cancer screening, treating liver diseases along with managing all facets of gastroenterology. Way is an accredited endoscopist with the Conjoint Committee in Endoscopy. He is a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney and is currently involved in research projects at Westmead Hospital designed to enhance the delivery of patient healthcare. Way is widely regarded for his compassion and commitment to providing evidence-based approach to patient care.

Dr Roslyn Vongsuvanh

Dr Roslyn Vongsuvanh is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist. Her practice encompasses all aspects of gastroenterology and liver disease, and she has a particular interest in colorectal cancer screening, the management of fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis and liver cancer. Roslyn is the Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Blacktown Hospital, and has VMO Gastroenterology admitting rights at Lakeview Private Hospital.

Dr Pran Yoganathan

Dr Pran Yoganathan is a gastroenterologist and gastrointestinal endoscopist with accredited expertise in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy and video capsule endoscopy. He provides consultation services in Castle Hill and is a VMO at Lakeview Private Hospital, Blacktown Public Hospital and Mt Druitt Public Hospital. He has particular interest in the early detection of bowel cancers and practices a multidisciplinary approach to gastroenterological problems.

Dr Omid Zarghom

Dr Zarghom is a consultant Gastroenterologist at the Lakeview Private Hospital with extensive experience in the management of complex patients with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease following his Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) fellowship in Canada and has ongoing clinical research centred around new therapeutic treatments for IBD. He has a special interest in diagnostic and therapeutic Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy in addition to Pillcam (capsule endoscopy), Coeliac disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
