Michael was instrumental in setting up the pioneering Public Bariatric Programme at Blacktown Hospital and services patients across Sydney West and Nepean Blue Mountains catchments. He has proudly been a VMO at Lakeview Private Hospital since 2015 and has performed over 350 procedures at Lakeview Private Hospital alone. His weight-loss surgical programme includes allied health support services, such as dieticians, exercise physiologists and psychologists with ongoing specialist reviews.
Over the past four years as a consultant surgeon, Dr Michael Devadas has achieved a safety profile that far exceeds industry standards across more than 750 procedures.
Training & Mentoring
After obtaining his Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012, Michael completed further advanced training in the field of Gastro-Oesophageal surgery through the highly competitive Australia and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Association. He has had intense training in not only general and acute surgical conditions but also with trauma surgery with postings at Westmead, Liverpool, Nepean and Royal North Shore Hospitals.
Michael performed the first fully publically funded bariatric operation in NSW in conjunction with the Nepean, Blacktown and Westmead Hospitals. He also performed the first thoracoscopic assisted three stage oesophagectomy for oesophageal cancer at Nepean Public Hospital.
Michael received his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from Sydney University completing his degree with honours and has also achieved a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Medical Radiation Technology, Nuclear Medicine.
He is a dedicated teacher having held numerous teaching positions including a clinical academic appointment with Sydney University in Nuclear Medicine for 6 years. More recently he was accepted into the Academy of Surgical Educators. In 2013, Michael became an instructor on Early Management of Severe Trauma Course and is an examiner in the Royal College of Surgeons Clinical Examinations.
