Dr Desmond Hughes is a general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon involved in the early development of laparoscopic hernia surgery in Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Sydney and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.

Dr Hughes has a continuing interest in both simple and complex abdominal hernias, along with groin pain and its management. He offers quick consultation and management of gallbladder disease and similarly for those obese patients looking at bariatric surgery. As an experienced general surgeon he is happy to manage a wide variety of pathology including skin lesions, thyroid and breast disease as well as all gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy/colonoscopy.
