Lakeview Private Hospital recently donated 12 electric beds and bedside tables to the St Barbara Clinic in the Chegutu District of Zimbabwe.

The clinic is located approximately 100 kms outside of Harare and is part of a major project undertaken by the Chegutu Rural District Council and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care to convert former farm houses into clinics. So far seven farm houses have been converted into fully operational clinics.

The Zimbabwe Australian Catholic Community in Sydney expressed their gratitude to Lakeview Private Hospital in a recent letter:

“Dear Lakeview Private Hospital Management,

This is just a token of appreciation and a big thankyou from the Zimbabwe Australian Catholic Community of Sydney.”

“The beds and tables you donated were delivered to St Barbara Clinic located on Ndwizi Farm, one of ten farms in Chegutu which are being converted to clinics. The population of Chegutu consists of 5,898 inhabitants of which 1,383 are women of child bearing age. Most are employed on the farms and in the mines.

St Barbara is the only health centre in the region and provides first line services; general treatment of outpatients, provision of integrated management of childhood illnesses, carrying out immunization programs, antenatal and post-natal care, care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS, training and mobilization of the community on issues that concern their lives.

St Barbara refers patients to either Chegutu District Hospital which is 35kms away or to Harare Central Hospital which I 78 kms away.

The clinic has been in operation since May 2012. It is our wish that we improve the health care service for the people in the region through St Barbara Clinic and fulfil the vision of our Founder, Archbishop Aston Ignatius Chichester to respond to those who are vulnerable especially women and children.”

Since the delivery of the beds and tables, Lakeview Private Hospital has donated an anaesthetic machine to further improve facilities at the St Barbara Clinic.
