Dr Naveen Somia appointed President of ASAPS

 In Lakeview Private Hospital News

Lakeview Private Hospital is delighted to announce that Dr Naveen Somia was recently appointed President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).

Established in 1977, ASAPS has been one of the peak bodies for cosmetic surgery in Australia and New Zealand for the past 41 years. The Association represents over 300 comprehensively qualified Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and is committed to making sure patients receive the best advice, find an appropriately qualified Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon and experience world-class treatment before, during and after their surgery.

Speaking to delegates at the ASAPS Annual Conference in Auckland, New Zealand Dr Somia announced his intentions as President:

“ASAPS for the last 41 years has been pursuing excellence in cosmetic surgery. I thank all members who day in and day out have focussed on public safety and excellence in cosmetic surgery.

ASAPS is a very powerful brand now. It is recognised by the Government. It is recognised by industry stakeholders, and more importantly it is recognised by the public and we want to build on this strength that has been acquired over the past 41 years of ASAPS operating ethically in the space of cosmetic surgery.”

“Going forward I feel that ASAPS is best playing to its strengths and for that we would like to focus on the four “E’s”…

  • “E” for excellence in cosmetic surgery.
  • “E” for ethical practice in cosmetic surgery.
  • “E” for advocating enforcement of regulations in cosmetic surgery, and lastly the most important core product of all …
  • “E” for the fabulous Education events that we run year after year that have been so gladly supported by everybody who puts their heart and soul into making sure these events are a success.”

About ASAPS…

ASAPS has been one of the peak bodies for cosmetic surgery in Australia and New Zealand for 40 years. The Association represents over 300 comprehensively qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeons in the region

and are committed to making sure patients receive the best advice, find an appropriately qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon and experience world-class treatment before, during and after surgery.

Why is it important to choose a surgeon ASAPS recommend? Because anyone in Australia and New Zealand with a six-year medical degree can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon.

As a consumer, this exposes patients to a huge range of doctors with extremely varied surgical training and experience. ASAPS can offer the guidance patients need to choose a surgeon with outstanding cosmetic surgery experience and appropriate qualifications.

ASAPS Members have eight to 12 years of specialist surgical training beyond their medical degree. Surgeons with this level of training are easy to identify because they have FRACS after their name.

All ASAPS members work with anaesthetists they know and trust, and perform surgery in reputable hospitals and clinics. Each of our members is committed to helping you achieve your cosmetic goals in a safe and caring environment, every step of the way.
