Lakeview Private now offer Gallstone tests and surgical reviews on the day of referral.

  • Offer expedited surgical assessment and streamlined surgery access to your patients
  • Skip emergency department costs
  • Help your patients get back to their busy life
  • Reduce attacks with early intervention

Dr Mark Boccola and Dr Roy Brancatisano are offering expedited gallstone surgery service at Lakeview Private Hospital.

Often symptomatic gallstones cause recurrent pain leading to periods of inability to maintain performance at work before surgery can be accessed. Typically, an attack presents as epigastric or right upper quadrant pain after a meal and may radiate around to the back. Classically it comes and goes in waves with the pain never completely dissipating. Nausea is often associated with the pain and sometimes vomiting also occurs, bloating and diarrhoea can accompany symptoms but are by no means pathognomonic. Acute problems caused by gallstones include: crescendo biliary colic, cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, ascending cholangitis and pancreatitis, with the last two potentially leading to admission to an intensive care unit.

The need to treat Gallstones promptly

“This in fact reduces patient costs as emergency department fee’s and inpatient overnight hospital stays are eliminated.”

Symptomatic gallstones should therefore be treated promptly. Our new service streamlines investigation, surgical review and access to operating theatre lists. This in fact reduces patient costs as emergency department fee’s and inpatient overnight hospital stays are eliminated.

With onsite ultrasound and pathology located within Lakeview Private we can organize all tests and surgical review on the day of referral. If clinically appropriate the patient may be added to the surgical list of the same day. With meticulous laparoscopic technique and adequate local anaesthetic we aim for same day discharge on a case by case basis and as the patient’s desire.
